ABOUT THE MUSICAL
Byron Martin and Simon Abbott are back at it again with their developmental musical satire based on their favourite Christmas movie, returning for the second year, this time even bigger and better! Sexy German criminal Alan Rickman-I-mean-Hans-Gruber leads an international gang of terrorists who seize an office tower during a Christmas party. John, a cop from New York, is trapped on the upper floors. He’ll need a Christmas miracle to save his power-dressing wife Holly and the other hostages.

ABOUT THE MUSICAL

Byron Martin and Simon Abbott are back at it again with their musical satire based on their favourite Christmas movie. Returning for the second year, this time even bigger and better! Sexy German criminal Alan Rickman-I-mean-Hans-Gruber leads an international gang of terrorists who seize an office tower during a Christmas party. John, a cop from New York, is trapped on the upper floors. He’ll need a Christmas miracle to save his power-dressing wife Holly and the other hostages. This Die-Hard-Christmas-Carol is about as stupid as it sounds with action packed comedy, tap dancing FBI agents and heartbreaking flashbacks of kids who are coughing too much.

CASTING CALL - HANS SCHMUBER & HOLLY DONAIRO

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN - Hans Schmuber:

​The Scrooge character, a sexy German criminal (Alan Rickman) leading an international gang of terrorists to seize an office tower during a Christmas party, but is interrupted by the visit of three Christmas ghosts. 

​

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN - Holly Donairo:

​​The power-dressing wife of John McWayne, working at Origami Corporation when it is seized by terrorists. This actor may also play the roles of a henchman, Emma Thompson, Hans' mother, Wellis, and others.

 

NOTE: All roles will include dancing and group movement. Improv and Sketch performers are encouraged to apply. The Grindstone Theatre is committed to inclusive casting. We encourage submissions from professional artists who self-identify as members of under-represented communities.

NOTE: All actors in the show play multiple characters.

JOB POSTING - STAGE MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION - Stage Manager:

  • Schedule and run rehearsals

  • Mark out the dimensions of the set on the floor of the rehearsal hall

  • Make sure rehearsal props and furnishings are available for the actors

  • Attend all rehearsals

  • Notify the Designers & General Management of changes made in rehearsal

  • Complete and circulate rehearsal reports

  • Complete and circulate show reports

  • Coordinate the work of the stage crew

  • Call cues and entrances during the performance

  • Oversee the entire show each time it is performed

 

Prior Stage Management experience is required.

JOB POSTING - SET/PROPS/LIGHTING DESIGNER

JOB DESCRIPTION - Set/Props/Lighting Design:

  • Collaborate with the Director on establishing a set design and executing the vision for the show

  • Examine script in detail in order to understand set requirements

  • Coordinate props and furnishings 

  • Create drawings to communicate the final “look”, as required

  • ​Provide a lighting plot and cue sheet

  • Attend production meetings, as required

  • Attend rehearsals, as required

  • Execute expenditures and keep budget in check

  • Submit all set and prop related receipts to producer

  • Create a set of accurate drawings for the set builders

  • Recruit and coordinate set builders and painters with the assistance of the Volunteer Coordinator

  • Supervise and assist with load-in and set-up

  • Facilitate light cue programming

  • Attend technical rehearsals and dress rehearsal, as required

  • Supervise and assist with striking the set following the run

  • Make arrangements to clean, return, store, and/or dispose of used set pieces after production run

  • Work within a limited budget

 

The Costume Designer & Set/Props Designer will work together as a design team to execute the project and to bring to life the vision of the production.

​

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous working experience as Set and Props Designer

  • Ability to work creatively within restrictive budgets and timelines

  • Good time-management skills

  • Ability to task manage efficiently

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Critical-thinker and problem-solver
