COMMUNITY PRODUCTION
This class offers an exciting opportunity to be a part of a FULL theatrical production! Classes will take place twice a week for 8 weeks, and conclude in three public performances. Each class will be a rehearsal of the play, chosen by the director/instructor. Students that are cast in the show will have completed Grindstone’s 100 and 200 level acting courses or equivalent experience elsewhere.
The class will require an audition. Auditions will be announced.

ACTING 101
This class is designed to get you feeling confident and comfortable being on stage, expressing yourself, and collaborating with other actors. It has the essential tools you need to start working on text, responding creatively to impulse, and sharing the action with the audience. Join Danielle LaRose, an experienced theatre maker with a passion for empowering performers.

ACTING 102:
ALONE ON STAGE
Being alone on stage can be nerve-wracking! In this class, you will explore the power of the monologue in the context of auditions and a full production. We will cover audition etiquette through role play and performance and you will have ample opportunity to perform your monologue in front of your classmates and at the end of term, share the piece in a public showcase.
It is encouraged to come to the first class with monologues to choose from.

INTRO TO LYRICAL HIP HOP
This BRAND NEW class is your opportunity to explore the world of hip hop performance with veteran freestyler/rapper, Beautiful Beast. You will learn the basics of lyrical hip hop while developing confidence in its performance and creation. Find your personal style and develop the technical and creative skills to perform your original work in front of a live audience during the end of term showcase.

IMPROV 101
Learn the fundamentals of improv in a fun and supportive environment. Students will build a strong foundation of self-acceptance, spontaneity, and playfulness as they learn to make up scenes on the spot. This class will focus on the basics of improv and how to get started as a performer. Join long-practicing improviser and teacher John Battye for an engaging and high-energy experience.

STAND UP 101
In this class, you’ll learn the basic structure of a short joke, how it works, and how you can write your own. Next, you’ll learn how that very same structure is applied to long-form jokes and comedic storytelling. This class is a good blend of the theoretical (how to write for stand-up), and the practical (how to perform it).

In this advanced program, rookie comics and Stand-Up Level 1 graduates can expect a class that's focused on feedback on their writing. Got a joke that's not connecting? SKETCH WRITING 101
In this class you'll learn about some of the different styles of sketch writing, from pen and paper to improvisational. We will also focus on building a strong character point of view, writing from your experiences, and the art of the double P's (pitch and premise). At the end of this class, you'll leave with a new set of tools to help you craft your own sketches!

SKETCH WRITING 201
Take your skills further in Sketch Writing Level 2. With a focus on character and script development, the techniques and class exercises will build up your confidence in creation and performance. Students will go in-depth to create their own sketch troupes and begin to build a longform sketch comedy performance exploring character, premise and game!
