CLOWNING 201:
So you're a clown… what now? Learn how to create short comedy bits (or “turns”) for your character, and how to apply the principles of clowning to any performance.
In Clowning 201, you’ll build on and deepen your clown character and explore your unique performance style. Learn performance techniques for connecting and listening to the audience and get lots of individual feedback about what makes your character uniquely funny.
You will learn how to structure and create short pieces ("turns") for clown and non-verbal performance styles, and create, refine and rehearse an original turn to perform in the final class showcase.
Clowning is a physical theatre practice, so expect to participate in light to moderate physical movement. Participants are expected to supply their own costumes and props for their final performance, and in the last weeks of the term leading up to the showcase, it's recommended that you plan to spend about 30-45 mins a week outside of class working on your turn material.
